The Herzan Lecture Fund

A voice for preservation education and advocacy in New Haven

As the Trust’s Preservation Services Officer for 15 years, John Herzan nurtured New Haven’s architectural heritage through technical assistance, historic research, and rehabilitation advice. His skill and dedication brought distinct advantages to a diverse and sophisticated city that respects its past.

Upon John’s retirement, the Trust’s Board of Directors created a fund in John’s name to support occasional lectures on topics of interest to the general public.

John has thoughtfully and knowledgeably educated all of us about the living role of preservation in a busy urban setting. His efforts reached and engaged property owners, architects, developers, historians, students, and government officials, and helped them understand and realize preservation standards. John’s influence is evident on countless buildings throughout the city.

The Herzan Lecture Fund allows the Trust to offer future presentations open to the community, carrying on John’s keen interest in the City of New Haven and its historic places and spaces.
