Since 1961, New Haven Preservation Trust has been an independent voice for preservation in New Haven. Over the years, our friends and neighbors have given generously to support our mission to rally our diverse city to embrace and champion its historic places and spaces. With your help, we can continue to preserve and enrich the physical fabric of the City of New Haven.
By sponsoring New Haven Preservation Trust programs and events, you link your business’s or organization’s name to the city’s rich architectural heritage, a valuable tool for reaching a community audience.
Outreach and General Support
Unrestricted gifts from businesses and organizations provide important support of operations and programs and allows the board and staff to direct gifts to where the need is greatest. Underwriting of the NHPT website, newsletter and informational brochures is especially appreciated.
Program Sponsorships
Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Workshops
New Haven Preservation Trust hosts local workshops to introduce New Haveners to the historic homes tax credit and to explain the program’s application process and rehabilitation guidelines. The workshops are led by an Architectural Preservationist.
Preservation and Technical Services
NHPT Preservation Services Officer advises owners and buyers of historic properties in New Haven starting with a free site visit. Her expert advice may include best preservation practices, architectural style identification, eligibility for listing on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, appropriate paint colors and materials, how to apply for historic preservation tax credit and how to find suitable local contractors.
NHPT shares reference material from its Historic Resources Inventory, registration forms for listing on the National and State Registers of Historic Places, and the onsite library. Use of the Trust’s research materials is free.
Heritage Date Plaque Program
The New Haven Preservation Trust encourages owners to explore the history of their property and proudly display an elegant plaque that identifies the year of construction. Plaques are available for structures throughout all New Haven neighborhoods. Sponsor support underwrites a portion of the cost of the plaques making them affordable to a larger audience.
Event Sponsorships
Lectures and Tours
The Trust presents community lectures by dynamic speakers on topics of interest to the general public in the spring and the fall. Sponsors are acknowledged in the invitations for these lectures. NHTP tours of historic and significant buildings offer interested parties an opportunity to visit such venues with a knowledgeable guide. Sponsorship opportunities include the advertising for the walking tours.
Annual Meeting
The New Haven Preservation Trust Annual Meeting serves multiple purposes, including board of director elections, discussing NHPT activities and future initiatives, and reviewing NHPT financials. The Annual Meeting is open to everyone, and all NHPT members are entitled to vote.
Annual Awards Program
The NHPT invites the public to an annual press conference and awards presentation recognizing exemplary acts of leadership in historic preservation and celebrating the determination of those who preserve New Haven’s architecture and neighborhoods.
Celebration of Preservation
The Celebration of Preservation is a fundraising event that features a silent auction and other celebratory activities. Sponsorships of this event support the important role of the Trust in preserving the built environment in New Haven to ensure the city’s architectural heritage and livability.
